CHASS Alum to Lead University’s Alumni Association Board

Some 30,000 alumni from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences have a representative at the highest level of the volunteer leadership of NC State University’s Alumni Association.

The NC State Alumni Association Board of Directors has unanimously elected Paul Ridgeway (Political Science‘82, Master’s of Public Administration ‘90) as its new president. Ridgeway will take office Jan. 1, 2013 and replace current president Bob Barnhardt, whose term ends in December.

Ridgeway is a Superior Court judge in Wake County. In addition to receiving two degrees from NC State, he received his juris doctorate from Campbell University School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the Campbell Law Review, and has also taught as an adjunct professor. Before becoming a judge, he worked in the private practice of law for 20 years.

Ridgeway has served on the Alumni Association’s board of directors the past eight years. He is a former member of the CHASS Advisory Board and currently also serves on the college’s School of Public and International Affairs advisory board.

The University Alumni Association, Ridgeway says, is an important way for him to stay devoted to NC State, a place he believes changes lives.

“It’s tremendously important to my life and to so many lives in the people of North Carolina,” he says. “I want to build on the great successes of my predecessors and continue to find creative ways to engage our alumni throughout the world.”
