Communication, political science double-major named 2016 Dean for a Day
For one day in January, Humanities and Social Sciences student Courtney Ross and Dean Jeff Braden will walk in each other’s shoes.
The college has announced that Ross, a senior political science and communication double-major, will serve as its 2016 Dean for a Day. On Jan. 26, Ross will get a sense of what it’s like to lead one of NC State’s largest colleges by working alongside college staff, meeting with faculty and donors and promoting its experiential learners.
On the flip side, Braden will experience what it’s like to be Ross. And he’ll be busy.
A Humanities and Social Sciences student ambassador, Ross is also vice president of NC State’s Pre-Law Student Association, a member of Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society, and the communication director for Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity.
In her application for Dean for a Day, Ross said in addition to attending her classes in communication and political science, she hopes Braden will attend a Kappa Alpha Theta committee meeting.
“(Kappa Alpha Theta) has given so much to me and served as a large part in shaping me to be the leader I have grown into over the past several years,” Ross wrote. “I would love to see Dean Braden get a better insight into how great Greek organizations can be.”
As for herself, Ross said she’s excited to learn more about how the college operates and bring a student perspective to relevant topics in higher education.
This is the seventh year Humanities and Social Sciences has hosted the Dean for a Day contest. As has been the case in past years, Braden and Ross will keep a journal of their experiences that will be shared on the college’s news blog. Stay tuned!
