Diversity Lecture to Address ‘Institutional Culture Change in Higher Education’

State University of New York at Albany President Robert J. Jones will deliver the 2016 Humanities and Social Sciences Diversity Lecture at NC State University.

Jones, a longtime university administrator and professor with more than 50 years of experience in higher education, will deliver the lecture at 5 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the Hatteras-Ocracoke Ballroom in Talley Student Union. His topic is “Institutional Culture Change in Higher Education: Leadership and Inclusive Excellence.”

In a recent interview for NC State, Jones discussed his upcoming lecture and shared his thoughts about the nature of true leadership and how to address race issues in higher education.

An internationally recognized authority on plant physiology, Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in agronomy from Fort Valley State College, a master’s degree in crop physiology from the University of Georgia, and a doctorate in crop physiology from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Before being named president at SUNY Albany in 2013, Jones served in mostly administrative roles for the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
