The NC State Fiction Contest is open to North Carolina residents and is one of the largest free-to-enter writing contests in the South. This year’s guest judge is Brando Skyhorse, author of "The Madonnas of Echo Park" and "Take This Man: A Memoir."

The NC State creative writing program is accepting entries to its annual statewide writing contest. Open to all North Carolina residents, the contest is one of the largest free literary competitions in the Southeast and drew more than 600 entrants last year.

Alumna Therese Fowler is headed for the red carpet. The 2005 MFA in creative writing grad is in New York this week for the premiere of Z: The Beginning of Everything, a new TV series adapted from the pages of her 2013 novel about Zelda Fitzgerald.
