Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages: New Certificate Program

Are you interested in: Teaching English abroad? Working in an immigrant community? Gaining hands-on, real-world experience overseas?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, NC State’s new TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificate Program may be right for you.

Toby Brody, Director of English as a Second Language (ESL), says the TESOL Certificate Program has been tailored specifically to fit a new set of needs. Unlike the the ESL K-12 Licensure Program, designed for teacher education candidates or teachers already in the field who wish to add ESL to their credentials, TESOL certification is available to both students and community members seeking eligibility for English teaching positions abroad or within local immigrant populations. The program is not classified as a degree, nor is it connected to state government agencies, so an undergraduate degree is not required.

Perks of the program? The TESOL Certificate can be earned in three months. Students do their coursework from May to June and complete an internship in July. Classes are offered during evenings and weekends, and both morning and afternoon scheduling options are available for the internship. Program participants also have the opportunity to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
