Alum Writes the Book on Declaration of Independence

Alumnus Dennis Parker brings the story of America's beginnings to life.

Dennis Parker (Political Science ‘67) doesn’t have a time machine, but he does have the next best thing — an undying interest in Revolutionary America and a costume that lets him embody a 1776 colonist to educate today’s students.

In its Red and White for Life blog, NC State’s Alumni Association highlights the Raleigh resident, his historical novel — Jefferson’s Masterpiece, about that historic summer of 1776 — and his efforts to bring that story to life by performing it for school children as an everyday 1776 colonist.

“I want them to understand the struggle we went through to get our independence,”says Parker, who worked in journalism and public relations throughout his career. “I am fascinated with the creation of our country.”
