Former Raleigh police officer is Obama nominee

Gentry O. Smith, a senior State Department official and former Raleigh police officer, is President Barack Obama’s nominee as director of the State Department’s Office of Foreign Missions. Smith is an NC State graduate (Political Science ’83) and a career member of the Foreign Service.
