Long before China was considered the relevant global player it is today, Jonathan Ocko appreciated the country for reasons that extended far beyond the traditional western fascination with food and culture. Ocko, 68, died unexpectedly last month. He was history department chair at NC State and a longtime adjunct professor at Duke University’s School of Law.
