My NC State Story: Dave Harris (History ‘90)

I intended to be a high school social studies teacher and coach, but I graduated during a teacher hiring freeze in December 1990. I had to find something as I was marrying my longtime sweetheart in the summer of that year. Starting on the production floor as a night shift associate in a telecom cable plant, I used the skills I developed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences to steadily work my way up through a very technical industry.

Over the last 28 years, I’ve held many positions of responsibility and have been able to work in multiple disciplines, including sales, operations, logistics and training. My degree may say history on it, but at NC State, I received an education about how to succeed in whatever I try.

I plan on spending more time on campus this year celebrating Wolfpack successes with my youngest son, who’s been accepted into the Class of 2023 as a history major. He plans on becoming a lawyer, and I can’t think of a better place to prepare him. WOLF!
