NC State Joins Prestigious American Academy of Arts and Sciences
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) has invited NC State to support its efforts to advance higher education by serving as an affiliate institution.
Humanities and Social Sciences Advocate Karl Eikenberry to Give NC State Commencement Address
Eikenberry, a former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan and director of Stanford University’s U.S.-Asia Security Initiative, will deliver the university’s commencement address on Dec. 18 in Raleigh. He’ll also receive an honorary degree, conferred by Chancellor Randy Woodson. The former U.S. Army lieutenant general is a champion of humanities and social sciences.
Gathering for Supporters of Humanities and Social Sciences
NC State’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the North Carolina Humanities Council will host a follow-up meeting for supporters of the humanities and social sciences in North Carolina. Under discussion will be ways in which to share compelling arguments about the importance of the humanities and social sciences to North Carolina.
A Heart to Heart Conversation
March 7, 2014, was a red letter day for the humanities and social sciences, as prominent leaders gathered to discuss "The Heart of the Matter." The discussion builds on a bipartisan report produced at Congress’ request by the American Academy for the Arts and Sciences. The report and our event are intended to help leaders in government, industry and philanthropy understand the importance of the humanities and social sciences for America--and what they need to do to ensure that we continue to have a vibrant, secure and prosperous nation.
