Jay Taylor will speak at NC State next Thursday on the history and future of US public lands politics. Taylor is a renowned historian of the American West with books on the history of scientific management of fisheries (Making Salmon), cultures of wilderness recreation (Pilgrims of the Vertical) and important articles on the role of historical climate variability on wildlife populations. He is also co-author of a powerful visualization of federal payments to rural western counties.

As a fellow at the National Humanities Center this year, Jay is completing a book on the history of federal conservation in the US West.

In his talk, Taylor will focus on the 2016 armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, what it reveals, and what we do not think about in public lands politics.

Please join us in the Fishbowl, first floor West Wing of D H Hill Library, at 3:30pm on Thursday January 17
