Research from NC State's Department of Sociology and Anthropology and Rice University finds that the racial composition of a labor market plays a significant role in whether workers find out about job leads -- regardless of the race of the worker.

Justin Lo is a sophomore majoring in political science. A Chancellor's Leadership Scholar, Justin has held several internships, is active in campus groups and sings in gospel choirs. He plans to study abroad at the University of Seoul in Spring 2016, and envisions a career in law.

Opening the door for underrepresented students to study abroad

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is launching a pilot program aimed at encouraging underrepresented student groups to study abroad. Through information sessions and Travel Scholar grants, the college hopes to show students how study abroad can augment their education and expose any misconceptions that may be holding them back.

Why are some school districts able to maintain economic diversity in their schools, while others have become effectively resegregated in recent decades? That’s a question being explored by a team of researchers led by NC State University under a two-year, $482,000 collaborative grant from the National Science Foundation.
